  1. Update from PNG

(Source: Ms. Ipul Powaseu, PNGADP)

1.     PNGADP submitted project proposal to EU for capacity building of 7 provincial DPO on the 10th February 2010.

2.     PNGADP advertised 3 positions for its secretariat – advertisement closed on the 26th February 2010

a.      Program Manager

b.     Advocacy Officer

c.      Admin/Accounts Officer

3.     26th February 2010 - PNGADP Chair presents seminar on Disability in PNG: what is happening? to a group of AusAID advisors working under the Coffey International Development Program supporting government agencies in PNG build up capacities of agencies in areas of human resources, institutional systems and processes etc. AusAID programs will now consider disability as a major cross-cutting issues and this seminar was timely because now these advisers are being asked to review HR policies and workplace policies and try to incorporate disability into their programs as well.  A copy of Ms. Ipul Powaseu’s power point presentation is attached.

4.      PNGADP advocates for considerations in defining disability questions in the national census? It is pleasing to note, although more could be done, that a more refined questionnaire on disability has been considered and is now being pre tested in the field by National Statistic Office.

That’s all for this week.

All the best with your efforts to enhance and promote the human rights of persons with disabilities.

Have a nice weekend!

Regards,

Solo
